The Bachelor’s degree programme in Primary School Teaching is the first step on the path to becoming a teacher. The combination of specialist knowledge and extensive practical school experience provides you with the foundation you need to competently support children aged 5 and above on their educational journey. However, the programme also enables you to pursue a career in other educational fields.

Entry requirements
- A general university entrance qualification or equivalent. However, it is also possible to study under certain conditions even without a school-leaving certificate or with foreign qualifications.
- Proof of your participation in the online teacher orientation test for prospective students.
- An entrance examination is required for the subjects of Art and Sport. For the subject of Music, we run the ‘AufTakt’ programme, which has won a teaching award. This is our implementation of the pilot scheme at the universities of education in Baden-Württemberg for ‘Music Teacher Training without an Aptitude Test’.
- For the subjects of Protestant Theology/Religious Education, Catholic Theology/Religious Education and Islamic Theology/Religious Education, membership of the respective faith community is a prerequisite.
Is your final grade not the best? The good news is: work placements, voluntary service or charity work can also boost your chances of securing a place at university! Or you could apply to study subjects where there is currently a shortage of teachers.
Learning outcomes and skills
You will develop key skills in areas such as digitalisation and AI, health education, education for sustainable development, teamwork and cooperative communication with pupils’ parents. We will equip you with intercultural knowledge, diagnostic and support skills, and prepare you for integrative and inclusive teaching in diverse learning groups.
Subjects and specialisms
The field of educational sciences is a compulsory component of the degree programme. In addition, you will study a total of three subjects. German and mathematics are both compulsory for the primary school teaching degree, although you will study one of these two subjects in greater depth as Subject 1 and the other as a so-called ‘basic education’ subject. You will also choose a further subject (Subject 2). The STEM subjects and the social science subjects are combined in primary schools and taught as general studies from a multi-perspective approach.
