Living and residing in Karlsruhe

Incidentally, Karlsruhe is famous for its very well-developed local transport network, so it’s well worth looking in the areas surrounding the city or within the Karlsruhe district, for example in Ettlingen, Rheinstetten, Weingarten, Stutensee, Waldbronn, Walzbachtal or Pfinztal. Karlsruhe is not only an attractive place to study, but also offers numerous other advantages for a truly good quality of life. The quality of life is high thanks to a pleasant blend of urban charm and natural recreational areas. The city’s vibrant cultural scene, featuring highlights such as ‘Das Fest’, is renowned far beyond the city limits, as is, in particular, our public transport system, which provides frequent connections between the city and the surrounding towns and villages.

Our campus is right in the heart of it all, not far from the city centre, the Schlosspark and the city’s other universities. There are also plenty of cosy bars and pubs serving, amongst other things, regional beers. These are where a colourful mix of locals and students from the city’s nine higher education institutions meet. They all enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. You can reach attractive destinations in the surrounding area quickly and easily, such as the northern Black Forest with its national park, the Kraichgau or the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve. Just across the Rhine lies the French region of Alsace, with towns such as Strasbourg and Colmar, and the Vosges mountains.

Cities such as Freiburg, Basel, Mannheim and Frankfurt can also be reached quickly and usually without changing trains from Karlsruhe Central Station via Deutsche Bahn.
