Target audience
The continuing education certificate is designed for people who want to work with biographical methods in counseling and/or educational contexts. The skills taught are applicable in working with young people, in adult education, in various fields of social work, in counseling and supporting migrants, in senior citizens' offices, in the care sector, and in working with people with disabilities.
Career prospects
This continuing education program will equip participants to help adolescents, adults, and older adults to view their life memories as a resource in the present which can aid in the development of life planning skills and to guide individuals or groups in tapping into their potential for resilience.
Entry requirements
The entry requirements for the certificate programme are
a completed university degree comprising at least 180 CP and
at least one year’s professional experience (exceptions may be made).

Learning outcomes and skills
This continuing professional development certificate will enable you to apply methods of remembrance work in your professional practice and to support people in learning from their life experiences and discovering sources of self-understanding and personal strengths. You will gain an understanding of theories, topics and areas of remembrance work and have the opportunity to apply various methods of biographical exploration in practice.
As a participant, you will learn:
- to critically reflect on new perspectives on the definition of a biography,
- to identify key concepts in memory theories,
- to assess the significance of memories for shaping present and future life,
- to name the ‘seven gifts of memory’ and describe examples of them, and
- to apply various methods of biographical research.
Course structure and dates
The continuing education certificate comprises an online block seminar (Friday/Saturday) as well as remote learning elements, enabling participants to obtain the certificate while continuing to work. The certificate programme is completed with a written examination (portfolio). Upon successful completion, we award the university certificate in Biographical Learning, worth 5 credit points (CP).
The live online sessions will take place on the following dates:
- 13 March 2027 (9 am to 4 pm) and
- 19 June 2027 (9 am to 4 pm).

Fees
The total fee is 450 euros. This includes the following:
- Face-to-face seminars,
- access to the specially developed e-learning modules,
- advice and support throughout all stages of the course, as well as
- a recognised certificate (university certificate) upon successful completion of the programme.
