Do you hold a first degree with a specialisation in Physics or Computer Science, and perhaps have some initial work experience? And have you realised that you’d rather become a teacher? Our dual Master’s programme offers you the ideal route into secondary school teaching (lower secondary level), where you’ll even start earning an income from the very first day of your studies!
After just three years, you will be eligible for a career in the state school system. This is made possible by the close integration of the Master’s programme and school-based practical experience, combined with the shortened teacher training period – and all whilst receiving a monthly stipend of approximately 1,070 euros from day one of your studies, rising to approximately 1,780 euros per month during your teacher training.
We provide you with targeted training on how to teach at secondary schools, vocational secondary schools and comprehensive schools. The close integration of theory and practice enables you to gradually apply your newly acquired knowledge in the classroom. You couldn’t get any more hands-on than this!
We offer you a thorough and practice-oriented teacher training programme in the subjects of Computer Science and Mathematics, or Physics and Mathematics. In our Master’s programme, you will build on the knowledge gained during your Bachelor’s degree by developing subject-specific teaching skills, educational theory and practical school experience.
On our dual Master’s programme, we provide trainee teachers with practical preparation for their future careers. By combining theory with practice, they gain a realistic understanding of everyday school life and are able to play an active role in educational processes.
Note
This route is open exclusively to graduates of specialist Bachelor’s degree programmes specialising in Computer Science or Physics. Unfortunately, we are unable to admit graduates of teacher-training programmes to this degree programme.
If you can demonstrate that you have 180 CP from your Bachelor’s degree but have not completed all the required subject-specific modules, you have the option of making up to 20 CP – subject, of course, to an individual assessment.
The degree programme, comprising 120 credit points (CP), is structured on a modular basis and divided into the following areas of study:

In the practical school training, the initial focus is on familiarising you with the ‘school environment’. In the second semester, you will gain teaching experience in your primary subject (Computer Science or Physics). From the third semester onwards, your second subject, Mathematics, is added to the programme. Through your ongoing involvement in the school, you will gain increasing confidence over the course of your studies and – particularly in the final semester – take on responsibility for teaching with ever greater independence.
You will also take part in a wide range of staff meetings, discussions, counselling sessions and other school-based and extracurricular events at your placement school. In this way, you can develop a holistic perspective and a comprehensive understanding of the school context whilst still studying.
The ideal combination of theory and practice transforms our students into skilled teachers. They bring innovative ideas to the table and put their knowledge into practice straight away in the classroom – to the benefit of everyone, both our students and our pupils.
We guarantee there will be no change of location!
A distinctive feature of this teacher training programme is that you remain based in the same location throughout your studies and your pre-service training. ‘Your’ school is situated within the Karlsruhe administrative district and is accessible by public transport, enabling you to coordinate your study and teaching commitments effectively in terms of both location and time.
From the very first day of your Master’s programme, you will receive 60 percent of the so-called trainee basic salary, amounting to approximately €1,070 gross per month. Following this, during the shortened pre-service training period, you will receive the full salary of approximately €1,780 gross per month.
You will complete your degree programme within four semesters. This is followed by a shortened, one-year induction period, during which you will further consolidate the knowledge you have acquired up to that point and put it into practice. This phase of your training takes place exclusively at the school and at the Karlsruhe Centre for Teacher Training and Continuing Professional Development.
You will complete your teacher training upon successfully passing the state examination.
