Subject: Computer Science
The Computer Science degree programme at Karlsruhe University of Education specifically prepares trainee computer science teachers to teach the subject at Realschulen, Gemeinschaftsschulen, Werkrealschulen and Hauptschulen in a way that is both academically sound and in line with modern teaching methods. The course content combines fundamental academic knowledge with practical teaching experience (including directly in our own computer science teaching and learning laboratory) to ensure the highest quality of computer science teaching.
Computer Science is one of the school subjects offering the best employment prospects in the state school system in Baden-Württemberg (source: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport).
From autumn 2025, computer science provision will be expanded on a compulsory basis across all types of school with the introduction of the new subject ‘Computer Science and Media Education’. This will also enable pupils at Realschulen, Gemeinschaftsschulen, Werkrealschulen and Hauptschulen to be prepared for the digital world in an even more targeted manner.
Teacher training in Computer Science for secondary schools, comprehensive schools, technical secondary schools and lower secondary schools
In the Computer Science module of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Teaching for Lower Secondary Schools (Real, Gemeinschafts, Werkreal and Hauptschulen), you will acquire fundamental subject-specific computer science skills. These include, amongst other things, programming, algorithms, computer engineering, theoretical computer science and databases. In addition, subject-specific pedagogical content and modules such as the pedagogy of computer science form an essential part of the Bachelor’s programme.
In the Master’s programme in Teacher Training for Lower Secondary Schools (Real-, Gemeinschafts-, Werkreal- and Hauptschulen), the focus is on in-depth subject-specific teaching methodology and application-oriented topics from computer science.
Departmental Council for Computer Science
Since the summer term of 2022, FaVe Informatik has consisted of a steadily growing group of computer science students. We are the first point of contact for students and regularly organise events.
