Master's Degree Programme in Lower Secondary School Teaching Profession, Additional Subject
In addition to your regular subject studies, you can study an additional subject within the Lower Secondary Level Teacher Training programme, for which you will then also be granted teaching authorisation. You can complete this additional subject without writing a Master’s thesis. In this case, the additional subject is not concluded with a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree; instead, you will receive – following an informal application – a certificate. You will nevertheless acquire the academic qualification to teach the subject you have studied for the Secondary Level I teaching qualification.

Master’s thesis versus certificate
Unlike the standard route to completing the extended Master’s programme with a Master’s thesis, if you opt for the certificate, you will not be able to choose the extended subject as one of the two subjects for your pre-service training.
Possible additional subjects
Application
You may apply for this programme if you are enrolled at our university on the Master’s programme in Teaching for Lower Secondary Level or Teaching for Lower Secondary Level with a specialisation in European Education, or if you hold a qualification for lower secondary level that is at least equivalent to these. The higher education programme on which this qualification is based must comprise a total of at least 210 CP or have been completed within a standard duration of at least seven semesters.
