Master's Degree Programme in Lower Secondary School Teaching Profession
The Master’s programme in Secondary Level I Teacher Training, with its focus on the education and upbringing of 10- to 17-year-olds, provides you with the best possible preparation for a career as a secondary school teacher. The interdisciplinary approach aims to deepen the skills acquired during the Bachelor’s programme in the fields of educational sciences, subject-specific knowledge and subject-specific teaching methods, whilst striking a balance between theory and practical school experience. Through the additional provision of sound knowledge of education in the context of support, development, interculturalism and digitalisation, you will gain the proven qualifications required to be a competent teacher in everyday school life.

Entry requirements
- A university degree or a qualification of at least equivalent standing, comprising modules in two specialist subjects and their respective teaching methodologies (subjects), educational sciences and practical school-based studies. The degree programme on which the qualification is based must comprise a minimum of 180 CP or have a standard duration of at least three years.
- Evidence of academic achievement in the following areas:
- in each of the two subject areas/subject-specific teaching methodologies (subjects): 45 CP (of which at least 9 CP must be in subject-specific teaching methodology)
- Practical school studies: 4 CP
- Educational sciences: 8 CP
- Specific entry requirements apply for the ‘Teaching in Europe’ specialisation.
Outlooks
With a Master’s degree in Secondary Level I Teacher Training (M.Ed.), you will be qualified to undertake your teaching placement, after which you can take up a teaching post at a state school. However, you can also pursue a career in any other field of education.
Course content
The degree programme focuses on the education and upbringing of children and young people aged 10 to 17, with particular emphasis placed on the development of personal skills.
The degree programme, comprising 120 credit points (CP), is organised on a modular basis and divided into the following areas of study:

Subjects and specialisms
