Master's Degree Programme in Primary School Teaching Profession, Specialising in European Teaching Profession

The Master’s programme builds on the skills acquired during the Bachelor’s degree and includes modules in the subject area ‘Bilingual Teaching and Learning/CLIL’ totalling 10 CP. The Master’s programme leads to the qualification ‘Master of Education’ after four half-years. The first two semesters are studied at our university (including the Master’s dissertation). The remaining two half-years are spent on a teaching placement at a State Institute for Didactics and Teacher Training and at a school.

The ‘Master of Education’ qualifies you to teach at a state school in Germany once you have completed your induction period. The specialised qualification held by graduates of the European Teacher Training Programme also opens up opportunities, particularly in fields where linguistic and cultural diversity is a key focus.

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport regularly publishes information on recruitment opportunities in the state school system.

1. A successful university degree in the EULA specialisation or a qualification of at least equivalent standing, comprising modules in two specialist subjects and their subject-specific teaching methodologies (subjects), in educational sciences and in practical school-based studies. One of the subjects studied must be the language chosen for the Master’s degree programme in Primary School Teaching with the EULA specialisation (target language). The degree programme on which the qualification is based must have been completed with a minimum of 180 CP or a standard duration of at least three years.
2. Proficiency in the target language chosen for the Master’s programme in Primary School Teaching at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
3. A period of study abroad lasting one semester.
4. Academic achievements in the following areas from the previous degree programme:
   1. Bilingual teaching and learning: 5 CP
   2. Foreign language: 30 CP
   3. Bilingual subject teaching: 30 CP
   4. Educational sciences: 30 CP
   5. Practical school placements: 6 CP

In addition to specific modules on bilingual teaching and learning (BLL) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), as well as educational sciences, students study a subject specialism (bilingual subject) and a foreign language. German or mathematics is also included. As a student on the European Teacher Training programme, you can choose from a wide range of combinations of target language (Subject 1) and bilingual subject (Subject 2).

The degree programme, comprising 120 credit points (CP), is organised in a modular structure and divided into several areas of study. You will earn 60 CP at the university and a further 60 CP during your pre-service training. One credit point is equivalent to 30 hours of study.
