Master's Degree in Lower Secondary School Teaching Profession, Specialising in European Teaching Profession

The ‘Master of Education’ qualification entitles graduates to undertake a teaching placement, after which they may take up a post as a teacher at a state school.

Furthermore, the specialised qualifications of graduates of the European Teacher Training programme open up opportunities particularly in fields where linguistic and cultural diversity is a key focus.

Upon completion of the Master’s programme, students have the following options:

• Pre-service training for the European Teaching Programme
• Entry into educational professions
• Positions in cultural institutions and organisations with an international profile
• Doctoral studies or postgraduate programmes

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport regularly publishes information on recruitment opportunities in the state school system.

1. A successful university degree in the EULA specialisation or a qualification of at least equivalent standing, comprising modules in two subject areas and their respective didactics (subjects), in educational sciences and in practical school-based studies. One of the subjects studied must be the language (target language) chosen for the Master’s degree programme in Secondary Level I Teacher Training with the EULA specialisation. The degree programme on which the qualification is based must have been completed with a minimum of 180 CP or a standard duration of at least three years.
2. Proficiency in the target language chosen for the Master’s programme in Secondary Level I Teacher Training at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
3. A period of study abroad lasting one semester.
4. Academic achievements in the following areas from the student’s previous studies:
   1. Bilingual teaching and learning: 5 CP
   2. Foreign language: 45 CP
   3. Bilingual subject teaching: 45 CP, of which at least 9 CP must be in subject-specific pedagogy
   4. Educational sciences: 8 CP
   5. Practical school placements: 4 CP

In addition to specific modules on bilingual teaching and learning (BLL) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), as well as educational sciences, students study a subject specialism (bilingual subject) and a foreign language.

As a student on the European Teacher Training programme, you can choose from a wide range of combinations of target language (Subject 1) and bilingual subject (Subject 2).

The degree programme, comprising 120 credit points (CP), is organised on a modular basis and divided into several subject areas.

One credit point corresponds to 30 hours of study.
