Subject: Chemistry
Studying Chemistry at the PHKA provides you with an in-depth understanding of the discipline of chemistry and equips you to deliver a general, research-based, development-oriented and experimental chemistry lessons at lower secondary level across all school types, taking into account established findings and the latest results from experimental and conceptual research into chemistry education, as well as empirical teaching and learning research.
Possible degree programmes
You can study chemistry as part of any teacher training programme, including the ‘European Teacher Training’ specialisation or as an additional subject. In primary schools, chemistry is taught as part of general studies; in lower secondary schools, it is taught as a separate subject.
Insights – what you can expect from us
Unlike a university degree, the focus is on subject-specific teaching methodology rather than academic subject knowledge.
Various school placements, during which you will take your first steps as a teacher, form part of the programme and are supervised by us. You will also receive training in our teaching and learning laboratories: the ‘Karlsruher Kinderlabor’ for primary education and ‘make Science!’ for lower secondary education.
The programme takes place in modern laboratories and seminar rooms. The small student numbers allow for a fast-track programme (no waiting times for placements, seminars, etc.) and enable almost one-to-one supervision.
